Question

What is freedom? Is it relative to where you are in the world? apwong

Answer

Fernando Solanas: In Argentina, my country, there is liberty, but this liberty is restricted. I enjoy this liberty, but those without work, those who have no voice, those who cannot nourish or cure themselves do not enjoy this liberty. In my country there still are several millions of destitute people and some 13 or 14 percent of unemployed persons who have neither a certain job nor social security. Thus liberty is divided into different sectors. Those who have more earn 30 times more money than those who have less. Consequently it is inevitable to enjoy liberty. Without freedom of expression, without being able to live one's own live, if one feels crestfallen or not integrated, complete self-realisation is not possible. Liberty goes hand in hand with the responsibility of the individual to contribute to society, the responsibility to participate in the community of society so that one's way of thinking, one's contribution adds to the construction of a better world and to juster solutions. No one can enjoy liberty by isolating himself or rejecting his social participation.
