Although I am not as learned as some of the individuals in this forum, I will attempt a short answer. I am originally from Central America, and have seen firsthand the extreme poverty and inequality in some nations. You see, the United States is a hegemon, this means that it controls politics and other spheres of influence, through what is usually a mutually beneficial agreement or interest with the nations which would fall under this control... Yet this does not mean that the PEOPLE within these sovereign states reap the benefits. Throughout history the "west" has attempted to impose its viewpoints on other parts of the globe, other civilizations; sometimes with benevolence at the head, sometimes because of pure economic, territorial, political interest.
Many of these experiments have failed, for a number of reasons; you cannot impose democracy on a people (also interesting to note that there are no true democracies in the world, most regimes are based on this concept but most, including the United States, are republics) you cannot institute development of nations without taking the local viewpoints into consideration; you cannot instill a sense of trust and cooperation with the west, when the people of these nations are also failed by the corruption and greed of their leaders, something all too common throughout the Third World and throughout history.
If you lived in Morocco, Lybia, Tunisia, you would as a matter of course know that the west (in the form of France, Italy, Great Britain etal) ruled your nation for decades or centuries. If you were a Palestinian, you would know that the state of Israel was created from territory which formerly belonged to Palestine. This in no way justifies violence. But it does cause animosity, mistrust, hatred, fanaticism. Human nature is very hard to control but very easy to corrupt... Look into history my friend, and you will find the answers you seek.
