Neela Marikkar: That’s a tough question. Well, if I had one piece of knowledge, what would I say? I think I would say that if we want to change the world that we live in, we really have to begin with ourselves. Change begins with us.

Norbert Servos: When I write a book or an article or when I make a choreography I always try to transmit through my work things of which I think that they are worth it. Each time it is a try to transmit a piece of my experience. And I try to articulate the experience I gained over the years in a way that people can understand it but also that they have pleasure and that they become curious. And in fact I realize that one of the most important things that I try to transmit is the consciousness that we are all part of a much bigger structure and this knowledge qualifies considerably our own world and our own problems. That knowledge that we are part of something bigger helps and raises your hope because it makes you relax and modesty can really help you to lead a better life. Because you concentrate on what is important and especially the knowledge that I'm part of humanity, a city and a household community where I live helps me. And what also helps me is that my work is a contribution amongst other contributions of many people and that this contribution is being discussed, received and changed by many others. I think that is something very important.

Oliviero Toscani: I don’t think we got – I got the knowledge more than the world. But I think the only thing I can give to the world is my own unicity. Nobody has ever been like me. Nobody is like me and nobody will ever be like me. So my passing through this world has been the unique thing I could have done in my lifespan. And probably the effort of being yourself to be really yourself is the only real value you can give to the world. Once everyone should try to be their self. Everybody, you know, we shouldn’t conform what the media are telling us to be, and the school and the parents and the friends. We should be ourselves and without having the problem being yourself that the only knowledge that we can give is we can propose our own unicity.

Oscar Olivera: If I have knowledge I can´t [inaudible] acknowledgement thanks to the world, thanks to the people, to nature, to the plants, to the animals, to my ancestors. I rather think that I have to continue learning from the world, from Mother Earth. We are [inaudible] but we have to learn from her and I must in a sincere and humble way that I don´t have nothing to give to the world. I think that I have to continue learning from the world.

Paul Knight: Understanding. I think it’s really about appreciating. I’d like to get people to appreciate and think about life, who they are, where they fit in and what’s happening around them in respect of historic processes, what’s driven people to get to that point and how that’s reflected in their lives today. So to realize life isn’t just about the now, it’s the past that’s got you there, the road you’ve taken to—that journey that you’ve been on and getting to your point at that actual position in time. It’s really analyzing that. Looking beyond what you see in the here and now to really getting understanding of who we are, of what’s happening around you and those interactions.

Rachid ElDaif: I am not able to, I cannot imagine myself in this situation, I cannot have, I am not able to, to spread only one idea, to say only one thing to the mankind. That doesn't go through my mind at all, It’s not part of me, I don't have an idea, I cannot have an idea to transmit to mankind. It is something that doesn't come to the mind. It is not my character, only an idea to transmit to mankind, in short what is the idea? What is it? In short…, fast.

Raymond Federman: I don’t know if it is a piece of knowledge. I don’t know how you transmit a piece of knowledge. But, what I would say to people and I will always say to people: learn to laugh, learn to laugh. Even in the most horrendous situation, you must learn to laugh. Laughing or crying finally comes out the same at the end. So why not choose laughter instead of sadness. Choose laughter. Laugh. Laugh. Even if you must laugh a laugh that laughs at the laugh. Learn to laugh in the most tragic situation what saves you is laughter. I will add to this sort of piece of knowledge since I don’t know if you would accept my idea of laughter, I will say to you. Resist. Resist everything that makes you smaller than you are. Fight everything that makes you smaller than you are and I don’t mean in size. I mean in your own beingness.

Rodrigo Baggio: Be a social entrepreneur. Stop what you’re doing now and reflect about your life. See in your life what you could do to help with the construction of a better world. And do it now, in your profession, in your experience or interest area, do something to transform our society into a better one. Even if they are very small actions, in your neighborhood, in your work, in your school, in your company, in your city or in your country. The important is to start doing something to transform our society with a lot of passion, with a lot of enthusiasm, with the eyes shining. This is one of the most efficient ways to be happy and help with the construction of a better world.

Sabiha El-Zayat-Erbakan: After al these complicated questions I really ask myself if we have knowledge at all. The knowledge I would possibly like to mediate and to make use of , what I would realize myself, is how pleasing sincerity can be. It’s not boring, it’s exciting and can have a great appeal.

Santiago Roncagliolo: I think, some book, some novel. Novels in general have done a lot for my life, have improved my life a lot. I think, that’s the best I can offer to the world. It is curious what happens when you make a novel, because on the one hand you escape from the world and on the other hand you create an object for that world, with which the people recognize you as an author, in the same way as they discover you. On the on hand you escape from the world, but on the other hand you expose yourself to it, you expose your emotions and uncover your feelings. I will leave the world various novels behind, when I die. I don’t know whether they will outlast, I don’t know whether they are of any use. I don’t even know whether they will be legible by the moment I die. But I believe that they are worthwhile having left behind in any case, even if they are bad. Having them done has been worthwhile.

Sihem Bensedrine: This idea, in my opinion the most important, is that nothing lasts, that nothing is forever, that all those who believed that they had the eternity ahead and well didn't have anything. That, whatever the extent of justice, whatever the length of the time, let it lasts, it always comes to an end, and whatever the arrogance of the greatest who dominate this world, they will end up leaving.

Simon Retallack: One piece of knowledge to give the world? I think it would be that we know today that we are in grave danger of exceeding the environmental limits of the planet; and that unless we take action now, we are endangering the future of our children and their children, not to speak of the countless other species with which we share this planet. And that represents a greater threat than I think we realize today and a greater threat than our species has ever encountered. And I think we know what the solutions are. They exist and we can act in time; but we need to feel empowered enough to take the measures, to take action into our own hands, to work together to feel that we’re not alone, to have a collective sense of endeavor to address this unprecedented crisis. I suppose another answer would involve me saying--and we know also that if we’re going to have a hope of creating a world in which peace reigns, we need to remember that probably in the end love is the answer, that we need to forgive and insure that we create a world that is one that we would want for ourselves and for our children, their children.
