I feel most alive when i am with the people i love and i am doing things that i truly enjoy, such as acting and dancing. Having loved ones around me solidifies that i exist. For me, feeling that i exist and that i am apart of this universe makes me feel alive more than anything else! =)

When I am exploring an unfamiliar place, drenched in excitment for what lies around the next corner. The intoxication that rises as your senses are bombarded with new sights, smells, and sounds. That is when you feel most alive.

Should the white majority apologize for Slavery? Pay reparations to descendants of slaves? Make an acknowledgement that slavery was a evil economic system that deprived humans of their dignity and heritage? Or just say, get over it!

should whites apologize for slavery?

Jul 24, 2007 7:33:07 PM cite

No, because some white decendents have a different heritage than the majority of whites that caused slavery. The British were the main causers of slavery, so why should germans and swedes apologize for it? It happened before anyone's time that was alive today, so why should people that didn't do something have to apologize for it? That's like the whole muslim religion apologizing for terrorists that also have the same faith.. it's just a select few people and the people aren't even alive today.

White's responsible for slavery

May 8, 2007 9:05:57 AM cite

This question overlooks the fact that nearly all of the African slaves that were captured where captured by other Africans. This means that they too should apologize for what their ancestors did. Then again there were many white people in America who fought and died to free black slaves, perhaps there descendent's should be thanked by today's blacks. Obviously I am being a bit sarcastic here. All in all I say that if you were born free then you are free. If someone is currently holding a slave then they should free them and ask forgiveness. However a person should not be held accountable for the crimes of their ancestors, nor put in a high position as a result of their ancestors. Are there results manifested in certain cultures that is a harmful affect of their past? Absolutely! But let's focus on those problems instead of trying to hold different people accountable for what THEIR ancestors may or may not have done. This will only pose a logistical and ethical mess, further some people's self shame and other people's victim mentality and at the end of the day show very little in helping to actually solve the huge amounts of problems that different cultures in the world must face up to. Much love, Eric

tough question

May 5, 2007 7:22:33 PM cite

Certainly, don't say "get over it". That won't solve any problems, being unsympathetic never does. However, there are simillar attrocities that have been committed in the past, for which there was no appology. I guess what im trying to say, is that in some respects, @#$% happens. Human beings are ignorant, arrogant, lethargic, and downright evil at times. But because America is an 'advanced' society, I would say that yes, we do owe Blacks an appology, it would seem only right, that our government appologise for its past support of the slave trade. Yet, I feel that it is a rediculous concept to ask for reparations, I am a white American, I am not a racist, I have traced my entire family tree, and no one in my family's history has ever owned slaves. Therefore, if someone asks me to give them reparations money, i will politely tell them to go %$&# themself. Thats my money, I don't owe you anything. Also, think about the consequences of an ill concieved reparations plan, where all of a sudden, lots of poor people come into some money. Most, i would wager, would not do positive things with that money.

I feel alive in moments of wonder. In those moments I feel my body, my mind, extend beyond itself into the world. I feel the horizon on my flesh, and it never ever feels the same. The consistency of difference, its capacity to provoke curiosity and wonder, reminds of how life has no opposition. In this state it is impossible to not be enamoured with possibility.

The 'feeling alive' for me is that time of overcoming a bad or negative time... when things finally feel like they're "ok" again. And so, with every good moment in my life i feel more and more alive. Each passing good expereince surpassing those of before.

When do you most notice the light? When you come out of the dark perhaps? Life is defined by death so feeling most alive happens when we face death. The emotion of fear is a signal telling us we are facing a great challenge. To look fear and death in the eye and overcome it makes us strong. The strength to overcome our insecurities enables us to live because to live with fear and not overcome it is an existence and not a life.

On those rare occasions when I reach somewhere deep inside myself & attempt to grasp the makings of a poem. Had the question been "When DID you feel the most alive?" --- Following my initial encounter with the horrors of combat in Vietnam. I was ALIVE!! --- and nothing else mattered. Life, itself, was sufficient. I have, since, heard others express likewise.
