Though I have not had the pleasure of reading or hearing any of Dorthy Parker's work I have heard of her. I would submit Robin Williams, Red Skelton, and Victor Borge as potential equals in witt. From zotlynn's list I agree that they were very funny except for Margaret Cho, and Ellen Degeneres, who I did not find humorous from the very start of their career. Can you point me to some of Dorthy Parker's work that is easy to find?

I do agree there are millions of funny women out there (I just wiki quoted Dorothy Parker - very funny!) Check out Maureen Lipman too.
I just genuinely think men are funnier, wittier and better comedians and I will stand by my unproven, biased, somewhat sexist generalisation until my experience of comedians, friends and colleagues tells me otherwise.
Perhaps it's that the language in which witticisms operate lends itself to the male mindset more than the female?
