Think about this, almost everything humans have used their intellegence to create, harms a natural resource of our planet in at least one way. Cars, plastic, rubber, etc. Name almost any major invention, and there is a negative. A negative that effects the Earth in some way. We already have destroyed ourselves, maybe not as existentially as we have our planet, but we definitely have done some damage to ourselves. War and violence being a perfect example of such. Honestly, in my opinion, at this point, you can try and change the way people live their lives to make them more eco-friendly, but there are so many closed minded people that arent open to change because they dont care, that it would take more years to get people to get the right idea, that by that point, i wouldnt be suprised if the entire planet is stripped bare of all its essential sources. Humans have their intellegence, but barely any humans have commen sense. We are currently destroying ourselves, as well as everything around us. As far as the future goes, unless things change NOW, we are destined for doom.

You in my opinion correct about our intelligence enabling us to deplete resources so rapidly since the industrial age began. Our present demand and population growth is as you say the problem. Destiny though is not what it is often thought to be, it is not pre ordained, it is something to be achieved and we are now achieving a result of our actions. If our actions were different we could achieve a destiny that would serve all life forms and that is the evolution of mankind from an inconsiderate species to a caring one.
