its a 50-50 some governments have radically charged up po-po, but seeing that you're in TX id say perhaps, they are more likely to be conservative = more likely to be assholes. it really depends on the cop.

the duty of police is protect the citizens (in law), but if the polices are citizens who protect them? The problem is that to protect from himselves, sometimes, they make people be scared. But if we do the same to them, we lost the possibility of saying this, and we are like them.

I think I mentioned in an earlier question that I am afraid of authority. Probably from my dad being a scary authority figure early on in my life.

There are Laws and Authority that are ment to protect us and others that are ment to control us, control should be resisted. Protected from others is usually a good thing, protected from ourselves only restricts our freedom. If someone wants to do something stupid, it should be left to their own consenquences, other responsable people should not be restricted for a few idiots. Good people should be protected from those who whould do us harm, and all should have the freedom to choose.

They want respect, but respect can only be earned. So they demand the next best thing. Fear.

police are criminals that punish other criminals. leaders are supposed to lead by example not with threats of violence. we allow them to walk all over us becuase they say they are more important than us and we should do what they say because they know what is in our best intrest better than we do.

Police shot a woman in the head with a rubber bullet injuring her severely for demonstrating the war in Iraq and laughed about it saying she deserved it. It is hard to respect that.

For the most part police authority is a protection. Rebellion is usually for lawbreakers. Can't think of too many freedoms we're denied by complying.
