we are afraid to admit that the disillusionment and conditioning to which we have been exposed and adapted is unreal because it means a painfully wrenching process of reconditioning thought process, habits, and life overall may change drastically. the sunny illusion of the lie is much less effort, however, equally as unrewarding. our society also encourages us to lie to ourselves. capitalism digs that stuff.

to keep your self from realizing the truth, which is more than likely hurtful/harmful... maybe giving a sense of guilt, maybe your pride is in the way...
