I don't believe anyone is yet aware of the root of all evil, however I do belive that one of the main contributeters is narciccism ie. (entitlement), and that is one of the worst evils perpetuated by organized religion. The thought that some are right and the others are wrong, and that some how that makes one better; which is why organized religion can become so dangerous. Also, it largely preaches faith without experience which leaves people only able to see one side of the argument.

Religion is a human creation. That sort of means that humans inherently possess the capacity for evil. The ones who notised the absurdity of this question are likely the same ones who know they can be evil. Organised religion is the bi-product of evil that got bored and needed a new outlet.

well what is religion in itself? and wouldnt it depend on how a person reacts to it? religion is not just a set of rules we are ordered to follow. in fact religion last time i checked was full of choices. you have been warned that this is wrong but one is given the choice about how to go along with the act.this is why in most cases you have a hell and a heaven, because depending on whatever decisions you make you are judged accordingly. And what do most religions speak of anyways? i have never heard of god telling people to go harras your neighbors and kill your freinds or in fact just take out all those who oppose you. thats not religion, that is extremeity and insanity and it uses the label religion in order to be able to take some of the blame off their shoulders. religion prompts one to do good in their life. do not lie, do not steal, treat everyone fairly ad equally as you would like to be treated, love thy neighbor, etc etc. everyone wonders and questions themselves at one point, why am i here? why am i alive on this planet? well some beleive in destiny, others in love. fate. for the greater good. evolution. and certain people beleive in god. why shouldnt they? who has the right to tell them no you are not allowed to beleive so? how many good things have come out of doing some thing better for the greater good and in gods eyes. how many religions have given peope hope and led them to a better life? sure, maybe sometimes a religion is misunderstood and is not properly protrayed and we are left with such people as 'terrorists'. however these 'terrorists' have as much to do with their religion as do the birds that fly in the sky. these people arent told by their religion to do harm. they arent just born that way. they are taken and taught and informed from the start that this is right and this is religion but they are being lied to and in a form being brainwashed. for they dont follow religion. they merely use it as an excuse.

Mankind is a psychopathic species, in the entire time of man there has never been peace, there is always war somewhere on the planet at all times. So it is very likely you will never see the end of war. Living in America amongst the most violent people on the planet I say you will only see peace if you have the dubious honor of being the last person alive on earth.

To understand evil you have to understand the concept of perspective. Evil changes from one to the other and is judged accordingly with ones own values. But if you think of the idea of evil, originally it came from someone's idea of wanting to label the things best to avoid in order to survive. You may even trace it back evolutionarily to "that tiger ate my father, therefore tigers are evil". Even moral values such as being good to others is an evolutionary moral meant to keep one's own community alive. So to answer your question evil doesn't exist except in our minds. Good is defined by evil, and evil defined by good. As such The "root" of all evil, nay the full formation of evil, is the misconception that it is an actuality. Evil is simply in our heads. We live in an expressive and creative world, just because you don't like something doesn't make it evil. The evildoer and the hero are equals or they wouldn't exist, and they only exist to express each other.

Evil cannot be blamed on any sole concept of religion. Evil stems from humans, in the choices that they make. The origin is evil is within us, and behold, the greatest war lies not externally but within.

People are the root of all evil. Asking if religion is the root of all evil is like asking if books are the root of all evil. Like religion, books are both good and the evil depending on who wrote them. Principia Mathematica = good, The Anarchist Cookbook = evil. "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful." — attributed to Seneca the Younger, ca. 3 BCE - 65 CE

no, organized religion is a symptom of our desire to have answers to mysteries, to belong to a cohesive belief system, to proclaim the evidence of our spiritual capacity, to acknowledge some type of higher power, to find and follow a lodestar. sometimes evil is perpetrated in the name of religion but religion itself is a structure, a house, so to speak. what we need to know is that the house is not a jail. and/or that you can stay home or go out.

Yes, off course it is... Religion has been invented and conveniently re- invented by humans through out history to explain, justify, and support all the major crimes against humanity, animals and nature.
