answer Eros was the god of sexual love and fertility and Psyche the Goddess of the soul. The Greco Roman mythic story is not a true myth because it doesn’t serve the purpose of myth. It is a story of transformation using mythic gods and goddesses. The move away from true myths to mythic adventures usually with a moralistic message became commonplace into the late Greek and into the Roman era. It is still [...]

question How do you determine which represents "true myth" and which does not? How does this one in particular NOT "serve the purpose of myth"?

answer Ok April I will say it for the umpteenth time. The true purpose of myth is to re-connect you to the environment, this is you the earth, and everything including the universe. This doesn’t really make you one with everything it shows you that you are already one with everything but don’t realize it. The way it does this is myths affect the subconscious mind using primordial and archetypical images [...]

comment Seems to me that if all of this is the case, then in actuality, each of us can only say what the myth does for us personally. There may be those who connect to the environment including its spiritual aspects, in ways you cannot perceive, by this very myth. Rather than making such a determined interpretation, perhaps you should qualify the perception as "to me."

comment Don’t look now April but your ego is showing, and myth is not about ego it is about the absence of it and a story all about the ego can’t relate one to what is egoless. This story is about the clash of egos and if that illustrates the problems with the ego. That in some way may show the folly of thought to express the inexpressible but that is a big stretch and then only a mental result is [...]

comment Does a questioner not possess the right to question a given response? Simply because an answer is offered does not mean it must be accepted as absolute.

comment April, question all you want if it pleases you, I happen to know the answer here. There are no absolutes in this world and likly many others, however I am experiencing myth and it am awakened in my life and that is the difference between me and you.

comment Fascinating. Sometimes answers to questions are not simple and sometimes not easily understood. I have found that by further questioning I am often able to find the foundation that will give me a meaningful starting point for more discovery. Often in this forum, however, additional questioning is met with an aggressive defensiveness that can abort discussion.

comment April, I did not want this to become whatever it is. I do not want to come off as a know it all and this is not a debate; it is an answer to a question. You can be assured I have what is best for you at heart but it is not possible for me to talk about myth as if I do not have understanding about it because I do. If I were to say perhaps about something important that indicates I am not sure about [...]
