Profile of Benjamin Fahrer
|
|
Benjamin Fahrer is a talented young Permaculture designer, educator, activist and farmer. Fahrer has worked on projects spanning the spectrum of holistic models that are turning inspiration into action. Fahrer works with a diversity of frontline organizations and non-profits throughout Northern California teaching and promoting ecological design for communities and land stewardship.
Permaculture is a whole design science that pulls from natural patterns and promotes mutually beneficial relationships. Permacultures ethological intention of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share helps employ ecological principles that are rooted in Indigenous wisdom. Through this powerful system, we are lead to a place of remembering our true nature and purpose within the environment and cosmos".
Managing a small-certified organic farm with his wife, on the coastal bluffs of northern California, Fahrer is intimate with the cycles and flows of natures systems. His current projects deal with strengthening his communities food relationships by creating a regenerative harvest for local food security; as well as teaching people and communities the immensely importance of using Permaculture principles and practices to prepare and respond in times of Peak Oil and Natural Disasters. A major part of this work is the preservation of Heirloom, open pollinated seeds that are free of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), and the skills that it takes in cultivating them in a post petroleum society. In collaboration with Schools for Chiapas and Oceansong, Fahrer has helped create a living seed bank throughout North America of four ancient varieties of Mayan GE-Free Zapatista Corn.
As an educator and promoter of responsible land stewardship Fahrer thrives at the evolving forefront of educational modalities. Fahrer places a strong emphasis on what it takes to be human and live in balance with the earth. Committed to this life long work he pulls strength from Buddhist teachings and a daily yoga practice; believing that in order to purify the body and mind one must give.
