Creating A New Universe

Fascinating story here, brought to my attention by Futurismic
Led by Professor Nobuyuki Sakai, the Astrophysics Research Group at Japan’s Yamagata University is planning to create a ‘mini-big bang’ and a new ‘baby-universe’ right there in its laboratory! The revolutionary experiment will use a particle accelerator to propel electrically charged particles at high speed at a uniquely dense (i.e. high mass) spherical particle, with an isolated north or south magnetic field, called a ‘magnetic monopole‘. The monopole will then gain enough mass and energy to begin expanding in a process of ‘cosmic inflation‘ similar to that which befell our own universe after the Big Bang. For more on the physics involved, check out this piece in QJ’s (Quick Journal ‘Blog of Blogs’) Space section, in which Professor Sakai contends that the universe creation process can occur naturally in space; or this article on digital publishing group Casavaria’s global news-source, Sentido.TV, in which he admits of the new universe’s genesis that:
“It is expected that the separation beween our space-time and the baby-universe would occur so quickly, it might be impossible — within the limitations of our physical universe — to observe its having been created.”
The blogosphere is, of course, rife with emotive reactions to news of the project. Quoting the biblical account of the Tower of Babel episode (Genesis 11), Jim Anderson of decorabilia doesn’t mince words, calling the experiment “the ultimate act of mad science”. In a recent New Scientist article (for subscribers only), on the other hand, noted inflationary cosomology expert, U. Cal Stanford Professor of Physics Andrei Linde suggests simply that:
“Maybe it’s time we redefine God as something more sophisticated than just the creator of the universe.”

Whoah! This is heavy information. Still, the experiment or study is quite interesting. A step closer to truly understanding our universe.

  2. Jim Anderson Says:

Thanks for the link, though the satire was apparently lost in transit. Even though I really think creating a baby universe is a mad scientist’s dream, that’s not a bad thing.

If we read the New Testament properly, ‘ All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteouness.’ 2 Timothy 3:16
So, with that in mind, we are allowed and actually encouraged to chase after knowledge. God wants us to come to Him, not just expect that he will show up. So, I agree with this experiement, if it will allow or aid us in discovering how God formed the universe..but only if it just stays at that. I belive anything further would result in ‘ mad science ‘ and be quite detrimental. The new found inforamtion would most probably fall into the wrong hands with the wrong intentions and the results would be nothing more that catastrophic!

I would like to wish the Professor the best of luck in his attempt. However, let us remember that the Big Bang Theory is a theory. It is possible that the Universe had no beginning and has no end. The concept of a beginning and an end is possibly a projection of the human mind. If humans had no beginning or end, the question of the origin of the universe would have never arisen. There are some problems with the BBT. Perhaps Mr. Sakai will be able to address some of them in the near future, or, present a new theory.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Just practising my ‘mad scientist’ laugh…. fabulous diagram, “How to create your own universe”… restimulated primordial pre-existential memories :-) Arigato, Prof. Nobuyukisan!
